Mary Simon

Mary Simon was raised in old Kuujjuaq learning from her Elders about her culture and what it meant to live together on the land in the Inuit way. Inspired by the lack of consultation with Inuit in Nunavik in the 1970s, Mary has been fighting for the rights and recognition of Inuit culture, heritage, language and way of life ever since. She is now the Governor General of Canada and has been since July 2021.
